The Yorkshire and Humber Assembly
Event held on 17 June 2008
The Sustainable Development Board Advisory Group Event was held at The Source at Meadowhall, Sheffield on Tuesday 17th June 2008 from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm.
The event commenced with a presentation on the Low Carbon Transport Study by Martin Revill of JMP Consulting. The research looked at measures that would be needed to achieve reductions in CO2 emissions from transport in the Yorkshire and Humber region. John Barrett from the Stockholm Environment Institute and Phil Procter from the Environment Agency jointly presented the key findings of the Leeds City Region Housing REAP Study which involved a carbon footprint analysis of the housing sector. This was followed by an overview of the LSP Eco-Footprinting Project by Steve Owen and Anna MacGillivray of Ursus Consulting. This project has assisted nine LSP's in the region to apply techniques to reduce their ecological footprints by the development of key strategies and action plans using analysis and scenario modelling tools.
During the afternoon there was an opportunity to hear about the work of the Sustainable Development Commission and the current position on the SNR by Jayne Ashley who works for the SDC. Stuart Kielty of Yorkshire Futures provided an overview on the current position and trends on inequalities in the region and the challenges for the future from the recent Inequalities in Yorkshire and Humber Study. Royal Haskoning have been recently appointed to undertake the Regional Climate Change Adaptation Study and Nick Cooper of Royal Haskoning gave a presentation detailing how this will be carried out in the region.
