Regional Strategies & Climate Change

The Assembly has commissioned ARUP, Cambridge Econometrics and Stockholm Environment Institute to undertake a major project to examine the contribution that regional strategies, individually and collectively, are making to the delivery of regional climate change targets. The project objectives are:

To understand how regional strategies are currently working individually and collectively.

To inform the role of the emerging Integrated Regional Framework in setting out how the region should address climate change

To understand the impact of evolving national policy and guidance relating to climate change on regional strategies.

The project is using two models: REAP and REEIO. REAP (Resources and Energy Analysis Programme) evaluates impacts from consumption of materials and REEIO (Regional Environmental Input Output Programme) evaluates impacts from production. Both are well-established models. This is the first time these two models have been used together and they provide a more complete picture of both the impacts of production and consumption.

The emerging findings of the work were presented at a workshop of regional partners on 22 February 2007.

The final report is now available to download from our library.
