The Yorkshire and Humber Assembly
Biodiversity
The Yorkshire and Humber Assembly is actively working with key partners to safeguard our internationally important biodiversity and to identify the opportunities and threats that face it in our changing world.
Our biodiversity can and does affect and benefit all aspects of our lives. It depends on us and we depend on it! In recognition of this, and the current challenges like that posed by climate change, the Assembly is supporting the Yorkshire and Humber Biodiversity Forum (www.yhbf.org) through action for sustainable development and promoting positive partnerships with regional and local agencies, organisations, individuals and groups.
Whilst biodiversity’s contribution to the region’s “sense of place” has been long recognised it is only more recently that the full extent biodiversity has in contributing towards the region’s regeneration, education and skills and quality of life have been fully realised. To support this work, the Assembly supported the 2006 Biodiversity Conference and is a key partner in developing the Regional Biodiversity Strategy that is seeking to conserve and enhance our biodiversity and ensure that biodiversity fully contributes towards the region’s aspirations.
A 'One Living Planet : One Planet Living' event was held on Wednesday 5th September in Leeds, bringing together Chief Executives and other key regional decision makers from a wide range of sectors and areas, to contribute towards the development of the Regional Biodiversity Strategy.
