Regional Skills Partnership

What is the Regional Skills Partnership (RSP)?

The Regional Skills Partnership (RSP) for Yorkshire and the Humber was established in April 2006. Each of the English regions has a RSP, and their role is to drive the region’s performance on skills, and ensure that financial and other resources are allocated to activities that will meet the needs of the region.

The RSP brings together key agencies and sectors in Yorkshire and the Humber to work on the skills agenda, and they communicate directly with the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) on a regular basis.

What does the Regional Skills Partnership do?

The RSP seeks to improve skills and productivity levels in the region. They have 5 key responsibilities:

1. To maintain a clear and informed view of the skills needs of the regional economy and the needs of employers in the region

2. To give leadership to the skills agenda in the region and to discuss and agree action with partners that will align policy and meet the region’s needs

3. To agree and maintain an effective skills strategy for the region, and to work collaboratively and coherently with partners, to support the delivery of the Regional Economic Strategy

4. To encourage and promote action on a small number of priorities, at any one time, to improve skills outcomes

5. To engage with stakeholders, people and organisations in the region, particularly employers
