Current Review

Climate Change is the current topic for the Scrutiny Board and the region. This review, which will take place early in 2008, will consider how the Yorkshire and Humber region and Yorkshire Forward in particular, is addressing climate change.

Yorkshire Forward is the only Regional Development Agency in the UK to have set a target for reducing carbon dioxide equivalent Greenhouse Gas emissions by 20 to 25% between 1990 and 2016. The Scrutiny Board is keen to explore the progress that has already been made towards achieving this target, how Yorkshire Forward is working in collaboration with other agencies to alleviate the impact of climate change on the region’s businesses and communities, and how the region is preparing for a changing climate.

The Scrutiny Board are asking the region:

  • Whose responsibility is it to tackle Climate Change in the region?
  • Are we making the right interventions at a regional level and are they having an impact?
  • What else could/should we be doing?
  • What do you think are the challenges and opportunities that climate change presents to the region’s economy?

Did you know?

  • Yorkshire and Humber has the fastest growing economy in England.
  • Yorkshire and Humber is the second highest producer of industrial emissions in England.
  • Yorkshire and Humber produces almost 150 mega watts of power from renewable sources.
  • 54% of CO2 emissions come from Housing and Transport in the region.
  • Only 26.9% of homes in the region recycle.
  • Emissions don’t just happen in the region – we increase them by importing goods in particular from the EU.
