Regional Flood Risk Appraisal
Government Guidance (PPS25) requires Regional Planning Bodies to carry out a Regional Flood Risk Appraisal (RFRA) in consultation with the Environment Agency (EA) and other regional partners. The purpose of the RFRA is to provide a broad regional understanding of the risk that flooding creates in the Yorkshire and Humber Region, and to enable this risk to be taken into account in determining strategic locations for growth and infrastructure. The findings of this work will form part of the RSS evidence base.
As part of the RSS 2009 Update currently underway, the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Assembly have commissioned JBA Consulting to undertake a full review of Strategic Flood Risk Assessments (SFRAs) conducted across the Region, and use this as a basis for completing the RFRA. On the back of this review, JBA have now delivered a comprehensive scoping report for the RFRA outlining the proposed structure and content of the document. The scoping report is available to download below. Included alongside the RFRA Scoping Study are some examples of the GIS mapping work undertaken throughout this process.
In addition, the Assembly continue to work with the Environment Agency to better understand the implications of Catchment Flood Management Plans (CFMPs) to the RSS 2009 Update, and assess how they will impact upon potential options for growth.
