Regional Spatial Strategy 2009 Update
The Housing Challenge
The Government published The Yorkshire and Humber Plan - The Plan (The Regional Spatial Strategy) in May 2008. The Plan sets out the broad development strategy for the Region. It covers topics such as housing, economic development, transport, the environment and regeneration.
We are now looking to update the Plan (2009 Update) to look at housing growth in the Region. The 2009 Update will test and explore the scale of growth, locations for growth and infrastructure needed to accommodate growth. We will look at different options for different parts of the Region, with a focus on the sub-areas identified in the Plan.
The timetable for the Assembly’s work on the 2009 Update is:
- Reviewing the evidence base (January to April 2008)
- Developing the evidence base (April to September 2008)
- Analysing strategic options (September 2008 to January 2009)
- Revising policies (January to April 2009)
The Assembly will submit the 2009 Update to Government in July 2009. A period of formal public consultation will then follow leading up to an Examination in Public taking place around February 2010. The publication of the Panel Report from the Examination and the Secretary of State’s Proposed Changes will follow in the rest of 2010. Information about the stages of the 2009 Update, including information on our studies and research and public consultations can be found by following the links on the left.
