The Yorkshire and Humber Assembly
Regionally Strategic Planning Applications
Since August 2005, the Assembly has been a statutory consultee on strategic planning applications. The Assembly is being asked to comment on those developments that would be of “major importance” or would “impinge on” the implementation of the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) or a ‘relevant regional policy’ (Circular 08/2005 para 59). The Assembly is also expected to respond to requests for pre-application discussions for any such developments.
In responding to consultations on applications, the Assembly focuses on issues of significance to the RSS and does not get drawn in to matters of detail, which are probably matters for local authorities to deal with.
The Assembly have produced a set of Protocol and Criteria for local authorities to identify applications that are of regional significance, which can be downloaded from the link below.
Copies of responses made by the Assembly on strategic applications since April 2007 are available on this website. You can access a list of these from the "Applications received" button on the left. Copies of our responses are filed by local authority. For details of any current applications we are considering please see the link on the left hand side named " Applications Received".
