ESF Responsibility

The European Social Fund 2007-2013 (ESF) is a national programme, and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is the Government department with lead responsibility.

Each of the English regions must produce and submit an agreed regional strategy or framework during Summer 2007. The regional framework must explain which groups of individuals will be targeted, and must indicate the types of activities that will be supported with ESF funds.

The Regional Skills Partnership for Yorkshire and the Humber has been tasked with leading on the development of the regional framework. They are currently discussing the development of the framework with the European Social Fund Division of the DWP. A regional Programme Management Committee (PMC) will be established to oversee the delivery of the ESF and ERDF programmes. Delivery of the ESF programme will be through the designated ESF Co-financing organisations for the region.
