Economy

The Yorkshire and Humber economy has experienced strong levels of growth in the last ten years, and is performing well. The regional economy is worth approximately £75 billion, and it economy makes-up around 7.3% of the UK total.

The Gross Value Added (GVA) rate for the region has increased by 26.6% since 1998, and employment levels in Yorkshire and Humber have risen significantly in recent years.

Despite significant progress in the region’s economy, there is still work to be done. In 2006, the average income was £25,961, whilst the UK average income was £29,331. Yorkshire and Humber also ranks 8th out of 9 regions for average weekly gross earnings for full time employees.

The Assembly works with Yorkshire Forward and the Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber to lobby national Government, to ensure that we get the best deal for our region. We also want to work with others to even out the differences between our region and the rest of England.

The economy is crucial to the well-being of the region. We want Yorkshire and Humber to have a self-reliant and sustainable economy, with a culture of enterprise and innovation, and which provides equality of opportunity for all.
