The Yorkshire and Humber Assembly
Sub National Review Update 310308
The Sub National Review Consultation Paper was published by Government on 31 March. The Assembly has released the following statement in response:
Peter Box, Chair of the Assembly, welcomed proposals in the SNR Consultation Paper, which he said had moved the issue forward in giving more details about future regional arrangements and an increased role for local government.
“What we must do now is look at the best way of building on the excellent partnership we’ve developed with Yorkshire Forward and others through the current arrangements,’’ he added.
“We need to ensure all the regional stakeholders play a role in developing a response and preparing the ground for future strategies to tackle important challenges we face on issues such as a sustainable economy, transport and housing.’’
And Paul Jagger, Deputy Chair of the Assembly and leader of the Social, Economic and Environmental (SEE) Partner grouping, added:
“I’m particularly pleased to see that the role of non-local authority stakeholders has been further acknowledged as needing to an important part of the new arrangements.
“Our work now needs to discuss how those stakeholders can best get involved with the range of regional bodies to ensure their views and experience helps develop the right future policies for Yorkshire and Humber.’’
