Regional Energy Forum Tour

Regional energy leaders are set to tour Barnsley’s pioneering renewable energy sites next week.

The Yorkshire and Humber Assembly’s Energy Forum meeting, which takes place at Barnsley Town Hall on Monday (15 January), will be followed by a visit to sites including pellet burning at the Town Hall itself and wood chip installation at both Westgate Plaza One and the new civic headquarters building.

The tour will also include a visit to Sheffield Road Flats, the 166 flat community facility where tenants have reduced waste through heat metering, and Smithies Lane Depot where fuel is processed from arboreal material gathered around the Borough.

David Bowe, Chair of the Assembly’s Regional Energy Forum said “This is a crucial area of work in the fight against climate change and we welcome the groundbreaking schemes that Barnsley Council has put in place already.

“We hope that this tour will give our members an opportunity to see how easily and efficiently alternative sources of energy can be produced and we are pleased that the Assembly is working to promote schemes such as these throughout the region.”

* The meeting takes place at 10.00am on Monday 15 January in the Reception Room, Town Hall, Barnsley
